The idea of the cavern was a guiding line in the initial design for what was meant to be a fine carpets gallery. The process of discovering the space was meant to parallel the discovery and exploration of surprising carpets finely selected by the young professor and owner of this establishment.
The positioning of the point of access, the blocking off of natural light into the space, the play on heights within the space... These were attributes which paralleled the image of the cave and on which we based the design guidelines, as well as the lighting quality and the mineral finish of the walls.
This intended rawness was then diluted off and refined. The now monolithic space retains a powerful feel of quality and luxury.
